From the Saracens to 1900. Forts in the province of La Spezia

With an ever-watchful eye on the sea, because in the most tumultuous periods of Liguria history, it was from the sea that the region’s' enemies arrived. The Development of the natural and cultural resources of Liguria project (Level 4 of Por Fesr 2007-2013) leads to the redevelopment of two examples of defensive structures in the province of La Spezia from very different ages: the Bonassola Castle, a medieval fortress built to ward off pirates, and the Chiodo di Ameglia Battery, built in the early 1900s as protection against naval invasion.

Liguria Heritage guides you through the discovery of these sites that are destined to become cultural centres for exhibitions and events, with the recovery of structures and the development of reception services for visitors.
