The Gallery of Modern Art - GAM and the Wolfsoniana are modern art galleries that are part of the museum pole of Genova Nervi. Both are located in Nervi, the first in the 16th century Villa Saluzzo Serra and the second in the adjacent Wolfsoniana in via Serra Groppallo 4.
The aim of the development of the natural and cultural resources of Liguria project (Level 4 of the ROP ERDF 2007-2013) is to connect the two structures using via Serra Gropallo.

A little bit of history

The Gallery of Modern Art– GAM in Genova Nervi was inaugurated in 1928, and on its ground and two upper floors it holds both sculptures and paintings coming from the nucleus of prestigious pieces donated by Prince Oddone Eugenio Maria of Savoy.
This original collection was then enriched with other legacies and purchases and now it holds more than two thousand seven hundred sculptures, paintings, etchings and drawings that were collected from 1850 and which can be dated to the 19th century and the contemporary period; it contains works by Rubaldo Merello, Renato Guttuso and Filippo de Pisis.

The Wolfsoniana, opened to the public in 2005, permanently exhibits more than 7,000 works and 11,000 documents.
The museum was opened to the public in 1999 and inserted in the “Museum and Nervi Parks Pole” upon the request of its founder, the American philanthropist Mitchell Wolfson Jr. who, over more than thirty years, collected paintings, sculptures, decorative art and architecture in the period between the end of the 19th and first half of the 20th centuries.
Each year many temporary exhibitions are programmed.

The intervention

The intervention consists of opening a passage in the surrounding walls of the park, towards no. 4 via Serra Gropallo, digging a trench in the park to create a walkway with a maximum slope of 6% that connects at the height of the current walkway.

The existing wall will be underpinned where the digging is to be carried out, and a surrounding wall of r.c. will be built along the perimeter of the new ramp.
The ramp will be paved in the same manner as the current road in the park and will have an iron fence along two sides and a simple iron banister.
The passage in the stone wall will be protected by an iron gate. Suitable lighting on the main beam of the passage will also be installed.

The Nervi Parks are an important botanical complex in Genoa which belonged to the nearby private villas: Villa Gropallo, Villa Saluzzo Serra, Villa Grimaldi Fassio and Villa Luxoro, and which today are the property of the Municipality of Genoa and used as museums.

Genova Nervi, with the Anita Garibaldi promenade and the small port, is the green space of Genoa.
